Traditional farms are quite different to Gel Ant Farms. Traditional ant farms are mostly built from sheets of glass or plastic with a layer of sand between the sheets where the ants can burrow. When you keep ants in traditional ant farms, you need to supply them their food and water every day and even when it gets dirty due to spoiled food, you need to clean their farm. But in case of gel ant farm, you don't need to do anything like that.

NASA has created a special gel, using which the gel ant farms are built. This farm was invented during 2003 NASA Space Shuttle experiment that studied on animal life in space and tested how ants can successfully tunnel in microgravity. If you are keeping your ants in gel ant farm then you don't need to bother for supplying any type of food and water, because the gel supplies them both.
